Engraved, Inked Acrylic

I had hoped to create a technique for digital intaglio using a laser cutter and acrylic plates. The prints didn't work out, but I really liked the look of the inked plate.

Laser-cut Paper

First I reduce the image in the portrait to a fixed palette. Then I separate and recombine the shapes so that each layer selectively reveals the one below. The pattern and color of the papers are random, so I don't know which color or pattern will show where. The result is a fixed pattern but a random outcome.

Acrylic Sculpture

These sculptures were modeled in the computer and then cut out of individual sheets of acrylic sheet. The sheets were not glued together and the form is created from the void in each layer.

Text

This series was originally about my experience during open studios. I wanted a way to express the things I couldn't say aloud. Since then I have been thinking more about text and language. I have been writing several stories, very slowly, and will use those words in the text pieces to come.
